About The Event

Led by violinist Jake Shulman-Ment, Midwood is a Brooklyn-based Yiddish psychedelic folk rock supergroup. Featuring some of the most exciting young performers on the international world music stage, they seamlessly traverse borders through original compositions, expansive improvisations on traditional melodies, and heart-wrenching re-imaginings of Yiddish folk songs. Their debut album on Chant Records, Out of the Narrows (2018) draws from deep Eastern European Jewish roots to explore the transformative power of love, wandering, and wilderness.

The Sway Machinery has a long history of producing unique concert events that call upon the social qualities of the Yiddish-spiritual music tradition known as khazones (cantorial art music). Part rock concert, part theatrical experience, their shows have presented a unique facet of New York City culture for well over a decade, drawing together diverse communities in a radically inclusive environment.

Fresh off Shulman-Ment and Lockwood’s summer tour of Transylvania, the two groups will combine forces for a legendary Halloween Jewish vampire rock collaboration.

About The Organizer

The Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust is New York’s contribution to the global responsibility to never forget. The Museum is committed to the crucial mission of educating diverse visitors about Jewish life before, during, and after the Holocaust.

As a place of memory, the Museum enables Holocaust survivors to speak through recorded testimony and draws on rich collections to illuminate Jewish history and experience. As a public history institution, it offers intellectually rigorous and engaging exhibitions, programs, and educational resources.

The Museum protects the historical record and promotes understanding of Jewish heritage. It mobilizes memory to teach the dangers of intolerance and challenges visitors—including more than 60,000 schoolchildren a year—to let the painful lessons of the past guide them to envision a world worthy of their futures.
